CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: (open to campers 15-16 years of age) Are you looking for a way to have a positive impact in your community? Are you thinking of a future career working with children? The Counselor in Training (CIT) program could be just the thing for you! Many of our counselors started out as CITs themselves.

This two-week program allows CITs to gain practical experience working with campers by assisting counselors during classes, afternoon recreational activities, evening programs, and in cabins. Not only will CITs get hands-on leadership experience, they will also attend workshops from Directors and other leaders at camp on a variety of topics such as behavior and risk management, interviewing tips and managing stress – to name a few.

CITs successfully completing the program will be considered for hire in 2016. CIT campers must attend two consecutive weeks. Housing and supervision is not available over the weekend, requiring CITs to return home.

CAMP FACILITIES: French Woods Sports and Arts Center features outstanding modern facilities that include a spacious multilevel dining room, heated pool, gymnasium, gymnastics center, fitness center, technology/communications center, recording studio, large theater, dance studio, rock music center, immaculate sports fields, 4 tennis courts, indoor and outdoor volleyball court, indoor and outdoor basketball court, a baseball diamond, archery range, a private lake, equestrian stables, 14 studios for classes and activities, an open air circus area, an advanced medical center, and two large Dormitory buildings (bunks) housing multiple suites that sleep 8 to 10 campers and counselors with en suite bathrooms, plus 3 additional bunk buildings. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: French Woods Sports and Arts Center provides the summer of a lifetime in a safe, supportive, supervised and age appropriate environment. Campers completely determine which activities they will participate in. Children are offered a wide range of activities that include sports, arts, technology, extreme sports, circus, rock music, electronic music, dance, water sports, DJ and radio, theater, communications, magic, cooking, role playing games, and equestrian. All that and more rolled up together into one incredible summer experience!

There are six activities per day, each one hour in length; three of these periods are called majors and three are called minors.

Majors are chosen at the beginning of each session and are maintained for two weeks. Minors are chosen daily at breakfast. This lets you concentrate on the things that interest you, while giving you the chance to try something new.

Empowering our campers to feel good about themselves and their accomplishments can increase motivation to try harder, try new activities, continues to build self-confidence, and achieve self-efficacy. The more you believe in your abilities, the more inclined you are to be motivated to attempt new things and become successful in those endeavors.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: CIT Program: Campers who are entering the 11th and 12th grades have the option of participating in our two level Counselor In Training program. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Pok-O-MacCready Camps is one of the oldest summer camps in the world. In fact, our boys’ camp is the oldest in the United States having been privately owned and operated by the same family since its establishment in 1905. In 1967 our current director, Jack Swan, saw the need for a summer camp for girls and opened Camp MacCready. We are now one big family, combining our names to “Pok-O-MacCready” and operating as a traditional residential Adirondack summer camp for boys and girls ages six to sixteen.

The proximity of our summer camp to the Adirondack Wilderness Park grants us access to more than 6 million acres of woodland, rocks, rivers, lakes, and mountains to explore. FAMILY CAMP SESSION(S): FAMILY CAMP: AUGUST 22th-26th 2018

Summer camp isn’t just for kids anymore! Want to experience camp for yourself and wrap it up into an inexpensive family vacation? Maybe you and your children are just curious to see what Pok-O-MacCready is all about, but you’re not quite ready to take the plunge with an entire summer. We have an answer for that: bring the whole family to camp! Our annual Family Camp week runs at the end of August and is all-inclusive of accommodation, meals, activities and programming, and transportation for trips outside of camp. YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: Pok-O-MacCready operates an Outdoor Education Center on its grounds from September through June of each year. Since 1974, the Pok-O-MacCready Outdoor Education Center has welcomed thousands of students and adults to participate in wilderness adventure excursions, team building dynamics, wildlife & ecology studies, living history programs, community events, and conservation initiatives. Apart from onsite day & multi-day overnight programs, PMOEC is available for school visits and in-classroom programming. The facilities are also available for venue rental for weddings, conferences, reunions, and community events.

CAMP SESSION DATES & FEES:

FULL SEASON (7 Weeks) JULY 1, 2018 – AUGUST 18, 2018 Standard Rate: $8,200.

It’s true! Many of our campers choose to stay for all seven weeks of the summer. Staying for the whole season really allows campers to hone their skills in their class areas, go on more wilderness trips, and means they won’t miss out on any of the big summer camp events! In addition, 7-weekers get to enjoy special events in between the 4-week and 3-week session break such as Beach Day and a day trip to the Great Escape amusement park. Some campers choose to register for the first 4 weeks, and then decide later to upgrade to the full 7-week session, and that’s just fine by us. If you’re unsure whether your camper would like to be a 4-weeker or a 7-weeker, don’t worry…it only takes a mouse-click for us to change a 4-weeker to a 7-weeker. Feel free to discuss that option with your child if you think they could benefit from a longer session!

4-WEEK SESSION JULY 1, 2018 – JULY 29, 2019 Standard Rate: $6,400
The first half of the summer consists of our 4-week overnight program. The 4-week session allows campers to learn new skills and take part in a variety of classes. The session includes many themed events which lead up to our “Color Wars”, in which campers don their colors of Red, Yellow, Blue, Black, or Green and see which team will come out on top: these games have been a camper favorite for decades!

“ROOKIE CAMP” (2 Weeks, for ages 6-10 only)
JULY 1, 2018 – JULY 14, 2018 Standard Rate: $3,200

For the first two weeks of the 4-Week session, we run a two week “Rookie Camp” for first-time campers between the ages of 6 to 9 years old. We feel this short session is a good bite-sized introduction to summer camp, and also allows campers the flexibility to stay on for the remainder of the 4-week session if they get bitten by the “summer camp bug” and want to stay longer!

3-WEEK SESSION (Overnight) JULY 31, 2018 – AUGUST 18, 2018 Standard Rate: $4,600

The 3-Week session offers two options to campers: a traditional overnight summer camp program, or a day-camp option. The 3-Week session is full of fun classes Mondays – Fridays, with special events planned on the weekends. It’s also the session in which our famous GREEK GAMES take place, as well as some of our campers’ all-time favorite camp events like the “Pok-O-Palooza” music festival, the Jack’s Cup sailing race, Casino Night, and the Pok-O County Fair.

3-WEEK SESSION (Day Camp)* JULY 21, 2018 – AUGUST 18, 2018 Standard Rate: $2,100 for a first-time camper.

Our day campers attend camp from approximately 9am to about 5pm Mondays through Fridays. Just like overnight campers, they get to create their own class schedule from a list of over 30 program offerings. They are, of course, assigned to a cabin and counselor and have their own bunks so they have a comfortable spot to relax during Rest Hour. Day campers also have the option of staying the night for an evening activity or program if they wish, and we can easily make those arrangements, although a small fee may apply. They also have the added bonus of being able to stay overnight the last week of camp for no additional fee!

The Learnatory Esports & Coding STEAM Camps are for those passionate about video games and excited to code! National Esports Champions teach rising 3rd thru 11th graders proven strategies and provide personal VOD analyses of their gameplay in: Fortnite, Roblox, Minecraft, Rocket League. Coding & Game Design STEAM Summer Camps include: SCRATCH, JavaScript, Python, C# thru Unity.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: Through The Learnatory In-School, After-School, Home-School, Weekend, Summer Camps, and online programs, The Learnatory, has served over 12,000 college-bound youth and teens in Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York City effectively and significantly boost their academic, personal, and career development. We offer over 50 various STEAM courses and programs. Our virtual program began in the Summer, 2020 and will continue to operate to serve more young people nationwide.

OTHER CAMP INFO: Esports camps are coached by actual top National Esports Champions.

Each camper receives a proprietary PEP (Prescribed Educational Plan) for every class they take that states exactly what skills they will learn and documents at the end how well they learned them.

Esports camps are designed for those passionate about video games because research shows “Gamers are more likely to pursue high-paying careers in the lucrative STEM/STEAM fields than non-gamers.”

Coding is a basic literacy in the digital age, and it is important for kids to understand and be able to work with and understand the technology around them.

CAMP FACILITIES: In a sunny Williamsburg studio embraced by dark-wood floors and a pressed-tin ceiling high enough for even the most expansive thought bubbles. Loads of imagination-stoking materials. Outdoor back deck. Nearby playground (just two blocks away) for outdoor play and fun in the sprinklers when the weather is nice.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Take on artistic ventures with paint, cloth, clay, and much more! Each week will focus on a material or art historical theme (past summers have included: Surrealism, Printmaking, Folk art, and Drawing Techniques). Class time includes art projects, drawing, playtime, and outdoor fun and sprinklers at the playground. Art sessions always leave room for students to work at their own paces, helping build confidence that carries over to every aspect of a child's life.

The Painted Cloud teachers are painters, woodcarvers, jewelry artists, and photographers, each with fine-arts degrees and a slew of exhibition credits to their names. They're also consummate play-dough sculptors, ice-cube painters, pipe-cleaner twisters, and paper-mask makers. We believe that a lifelong love of the arts is fostered when the process of art-making is prioritized.

An emphasis on process welcomes and supports all forms of creativity: some children are tuned in to compositional landscapes and color relationships, others are focused on representing the world as they observe it, others are most engaged when constructing or dismantling, and still others are operating on conceptual and performative levels. Classes focus on experimenting with innovative processes and a wide range of materials while increasing children's confidence in their artistic abilities. We strive to provide a positive and dynamic environment. We are committed to inspiring and sparking the imaginations of kids through art.

Summer Program Director Cora Garner is an American Camp Association Member. She came to us after working at Cornell University, Stanford University, and most recently the University of California, Berkeley. Through her work in Higher Education, she has developed and taught courses that focus on identity and community development.

At Girls Leadership we want you to be true-to-you. Every day starts with community games. Our theatre-based workshops focus on developing personal and societal leadership, such as how to ask for what you need. In these sessions girls practice new tools for speaking up for themselves and for others.

We also create beautiful art projects, stay active outside, and always have a spirit theme for the day. These activities are designed to encourage girls to embrace who they are, reflect on what they believe, and give them an opportunity to express themselves creatively.
