CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Summers are for having fun. It's a time to spend with friends. To make memories and share experiences that last a lifetime. That's what Mill Basin Day Camp is all about. Mill Basin Day Camp is dedicated to providing an exciting and fulfilling camp experience for both children and their parents by providing fun, recreational, social and educational activities.

We have grown over the past 15 years to become the most popular summer day camp program for kids in the Brooklyn & Queens areas. At least that’s what the kids tell us.

Our staff consists of professionals, many of whom continue to work in child related fields throughout the year. Our directorial staff is comprised of licensed professionals with many years camp experience. All the group leader staff are trained in CPR and First Aid. Our Aquatics programs are staffed by certified and licensed personnel, as required by the NYC Department of Health and American Red Cross.

Safety is our highest priority at Mill Basin Day Camp. We equip our staff and facility with the latest and most modern safety and technological products in order to maintain constant contact and security both on and off the camp facility. Campers also receive Camp Gear which they use throughout the summer.

Our modern, fully air-conditioned facility offers a wide range of activities for children entering Pre-K thru 9th grade in the upcoming September scholastic year. There are Five (5) individual camp programs. Each camp has its own unique and innovative program that best suits the needs of the varying ages of our campers.

There is Pre-School Camp for kids entering Pre-K and Kindergarten. Adventures Camp is for kids entering grades 1 and 2, Stars Camp entering grades 3, 4 & 5.

For older campers there is Explorers Camp for kids going to grades 6 & 7 and they travel as part weeks doing alot of day trips. Finally, there is Teens Camp for teens going to grades 8 & 9 and they are a travel camp. Each group has various methods for integrating new campers into their groups.

Head Counselors are trained to make sure that all campers are introduced to the other campers and are made to feel part of the group in the first few minutes of the camp day. Directors are also at hand to help new campers make any adjustments that they may need.

The typical camp day begins with a first activity at 9:00 am. There are 3 periods in the morning, then lunch, 3 periods in the afternoon. Activities are both indoor and outdoor and are balanced accordingly. Pre-School dismissal times and activities are a bit different and will be explained at a pre-camp parents meeting for registered families.

We realize and understand the pressures facing today's working parents so we have designed a very flexible registration program. Changing your summer schedule by adding, subtracting or changing weeks is never a problem at any time. If summer school is a worry for you, our program is entirely refundable at any time prior to the first day of camp.

CAMP FACILITIES: The Queens College is a beautiful landscaped 79-acre campus with out-door and in-door tennis courts and playing fields for soccer, softball and lacrosse. The Fitzgerald Gym is 40,000+ sq ft. basketball and volleyball courts and an 25 yard length pool.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: EDUCATION AND SPORTS PROGRAM: ages 5 -14 This program provides enrichment for youngsters who wish to develop talents and interests outside their regular schools. Faculty members have been selected for their ability to communicate the joy of learning to young students and to promote invention, creativity, and self-expression. All indoor classes are in air-conditioned classrooms. For the 5 & 6 year old we offer Kindergarten Academy or First Grade Academy which has small groups supervised by caring counselors. This program is combined with a half day of Sports activities, taught by experienced instructors who encourage the love of physical fitness, sports and good sportsmanship.

NEW QC Sports Club: Ages 9-14
Queens College facilities are among the best in the City. The spacious Fitzgerald Gym houses an Olympic-standard pool and basketball courts. Outdoor facilities include tennis courts, softball fields and soccer fields. Children ages 9 to 14 can choose a major/minor program that allows them to experience a number of different sports.

THEATER PRODUCTION: ages 9-14
Do you enjoy acting? Do you like to dance? Are you artistic—can you create scenery and costumes? Or would you rather go behind the scenes and become a stage manager? This program will teach campers the many different aspects to creating a successful musical play. The Theater Production will stimulate your child’s imagination while equipping them with valuable traits such as self-esteem and confidence. Join the fun as we put together a musical for parents and peers to see! Past musicals have included The Little Mermaid, Jungle Book, Oliver, Mary Poppins, and others!

LITTLE THEATER: ages 5 - 8
We will work on our dancing, singing and acting in the mornings then go have fun in the gym and fields in the afternoon along with instructional swim time. This year we're looking forward a production of Lion King and 101 Dalmatians. It's adorable!

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Counselor-in-Training Leadership Program for teenagers 15 and 16 focus on developing strong leaders. It helps prepare young adults for the next phases in their lives - college and the workplace. Gain job skills through training, discussion, observation & practical experiences. 8, 6 or 4 weeks programs. 8 week fee $2600.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: SPRING BREAK Sports Clinics: ages 6 to 13. April 10 to April 14, 9 to 3 $295. Children will concentrate on one specific sport in the morning and then practice with the Strength, Speed and Agility Team in the afternoon to pull it all together for a fun week. CAMP FACILITIES: Campers attending Shankitunk for a week of summer fun will be assigned to one of our 15 rustic wooden cabins along the meadows edge. We have an outdoor swimming pool, low ropes course, basketball court, volleyball court, dining hall, craft hall, recreation pavilion, soccer field, archery range, Science Center, bathhouse with hot water and showers, maintenance shop, hiking trails, and river access for nature exploration.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: 4-H Camp Shankitunk is the oldest continuously operating 4-H camp in New York State. We first opened in 1927 as a vacation getaway for farm children in Delaware County, and have been providing a memorable experience for campers from all over the state and even other states ever since.

Our program has many rich traditions that have inspired grown campers to send their children back and even their grandchildren. Our chicken BBQ dinner, visit from the Delaware County Dairy Princess, closing candle ceremony, songs, class options, friendships, and flag salute are just a few. We hire a staff of approximately 40 each year, many of whom have been with us since they were old enough to attend Shankitunk themselves, but we love to welcome new faces into our camp family too. Imagine the fun you could have with us at Shankitunk this summer!

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Shankitunk does offer a CIT program for campers age 14 and older who are interested in becoming future counselors. Campers complete level one in team-building, level two in communication and self reflection, and then attend a two week program where they devote all of their class time the first week to becoming a counselor and spend the second week shadowing a counselor to apply what they have learned. CAMP FACILITIES: We have a 61,000 sq.ft. fully air-conditioned recreation facility with a 24,000 sq. ft. main arena and a 12,000 sq.ft. auxiliary gymnasium. The Main Arena has seating for all campers, counselors and parents. CAMP FACILITIES: Summit has approx. 30 traditional wooden cabins with electric and private facilities in each cabin. Our main buildings include our newly refinished dining hall, air-conditioned recreational hall, our medical facility, and a newly built outdoor pavilion. Summit utilizes three A frame buildings for our arts programs, a wilderness treehouse with camp fire area for cookouts, newly resurfaced basketball/tennis courts, high/low ropes course with climbing wall, heated pool, private lake, nature fields with a farm area, martial arts dojo, go-kart track with 3 karts. Summit has a small amphitheatre adjacent to our lake, with a miraculous view of our beautiful setting where we enjoy swimming, canoeing, and riding our banana boats. Our camp resides on a gently rising hillside, thus providing us with the physical basis for our motto, "The Magic on the Hill."

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Summit Camp is a co-ed sleepaway camp for ages 8-19 years with issues of attention: AD/HD, HFA/Asperger’s Disorder, and/or learning differences. Using the frame of a traditional sleepaway camp, we create platforms of success where our campers can experience outcomes such as improved self-esteem, lasting friendships, and increased independence. This is accomplished through a well-orchestrated and expertly staffed backdrop to a largely traditional camp experience- guided challenges, waterfront, adventure course, and more. It is our goal and desire to take our campers from observing peer interactions to engaging in them, to learn and celebrate their own strengths and successes, and to feel a sense of belonging and shared community with those around them while they are with us.

Our Teen Travel program extends the Summit community to provide a safe yet exciting adventure to one of our many attractive national and international destination tours offering 14 day and 19 day excursions. Summit Weekenders provide a youth-group style social retreat for adolescents to have an oasis of independence, enjoyment, and success during the school year months. Regardless of the specific program, Summit provides an expertly staffed, highly structured, and truly fun experience for our youth, and has been doing so since 1969. CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Our Transitions to Adult Living Skills program for youth aged 15-19 provides learning and vocational opportunities for our teens. We also have vocational programs for upper camp including, big brother/big sister, waiter/waitressing, working in a specialty area or as UL assistant, photography, and more. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Founded in 1968, the GO Project has a long history of serving public school children that are struggling academically. The GO Project currently serves 722 students in grades K-8 through our summer (GO Summer) and school year program (GO School). Unique to the GO Project model is the partnership we have developed with independent schools in Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. These schools donate space and resources to the GO Project to enable us to operate our programs in a cost efficient manner. Enrichment Coordinator - Each afternoon during the summer, GO Project provides students with a variety of art and movement experiences that intentionally complement and support the morning academic periods. The GO Project is seeking Enrichment Coordinators to oversee the implementation of high quality enrichment programs with our elementary school students. Coordinators will directly supervise 5-10 Activity Specialists and act as a campus leader for one of four sites.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: YEA is a unique and inspiring leadership summer camp for youth 12-17 who care about community service, activism and social justice. This week-long sleep-away program is designed to be a fun and transforming experience that builds life-long friendships between youth with similar interests. YEA Camp New York will have two concurrent sessions! One session for teens with a variety of causes, and for the first time ever, a separate session for teens interested in animal activism (and what better location than a Farm Animal Sanctuary!).

Our program also provides a meaningful opportunity for campers to learn more about some of the issues facing our planet and to get inspired and empowered to take action on those issues. Campers choose an issue of importance to them (for example, some have chosen climate change, racism, homophobia, homelessness, animal rights) and at YEA they build the knowledge, skills, confidence, and community to take action on that issue long after camp is over. CAMP FACILITIES: Silver Lake is a picturesque camp, situated on over 300 acres of rolling green hills with a 96-acre private lake. Since opening in 2004, we have been busy improving and upgrading all of our facilities. During that time we have built all new bunks and renovated our basketball, tennis, and volleyball courts. We have also expanded our facilities over the past few summers by adding a new soccer field, "Monster" baseball field, skate park, Pool, and brand new state of the art Gymnastics Facility.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Michael and Shari Baer, owners of Camp Chipinaw, established Silver Lake in 2004 as a session camp that allowed campers to attend for 3, 4, or 7 weeks. Silver Lake incorporates all of the traditions, activities, and spirit of Chipinaw… but does it twice each summer! Simply put, we want to provide campers with the opportunity to go to camp for a shorter amount of time and still get the "full camp" experience.

With state of the art facilities and over 50 activities to choose from, Silver Lake offers a warm family feel. CAMP FACILITIES: Students will use Hofstra's top-notch facilities, including their Olympic sized pool, while being taught by experts from Nassau BOCES. Time will be split between the classroom and the pool, where students will design and build a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) and learn about methods in underwater archaeology.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The course will begin with an introduction to the history of marine exploration. Then, as part of a team, they will design and build an underwater ROV and test their designs in the water. Students will also have the opportunity to work with a marine archaeologist and participate in an antique "helmet dive" in Hofstra's pool.

CAMP FACILITIES: At Timber Lake West, Campers live in modern, paneled cabins called bunks. Each bunk is equipped with full bathrooms and storage space for each camper's belongings. Three to four counselors and eight to ten campers make up each bunk.

Campers make their beds, care for their own belongings and practice good personal hygiene. Our professional housekeeping staff maintains and sanitizes the bathrooms daily. A complete packing list and Parents' Manual make the process of preparing for camp as easy and convenient as possible.

The cabin or bunk is where campers learn to live together as a group, to share and to respect each other. We see bunk living as the core of the camp experience - central to our mission of teaching children the skills of making and keeping friends.

HARDCORE ATHLETICS:
Hardcore Sports is designed to provide extra instruction and drills in various sports for those campers who elect to work with extra intensity on their skills. The work-out sessions are held during an elective or swim period for those campers yearning to improve their skills, practice for upcoming tournaments or play at a higher level of competition. These campers get a chance to work on their mechanics through drills, practicing game situations, improving their mental preparation, building self-esteem and getting into or staying in great physical shape.

Two periods each day are devoted to swimming and water sports. Our emphasis is on safety, instruction and fun. Our experienced Red Cross certified waterfront staff provides special attention to improving swim skills with the main emphasis, of course, on safety. Timber Lake West's two heated pools set us apart from others. Our Olympic size pool makes free swim a favorite activity while our completely private spring-fed lake, right in the heart of camp, provides the thrill of water-skiing and an extensive boating program, featuring instruction in canoeing, kayaking, row boating, surf bikes, paddle bikes, banana boating and water skiing.

Adventure at Timber Lake West comes alive when our campers challenge themselves to try activities they have never done before. Whether it’s hiking in the mountains, scaling our 35 foot climbing wall or soaring down our zip line, camp is meant to be an adventure.

Our low ropes course gives campers the opportunity to work together toward a common goal while building friendships, self-esteem and self-confidence.

As part of our program each bunk meets with our trained and experienced staff on our low ropes/team building course and on overnight camp outs. As a cohesive unit, the campers work together to accomplish the goals that they set for themselves at the beginning of the four week session.

Each day campers select two activities from a wide variety of athletic, adventure oriented, and performing or creative arts electives. Combined with our scheduled sports and waterfront activities, the Elective periods allow campers to customize their summer program. Before bedtime, campers stop with friends at our Planet West Canteen, complete with snacks, Pop-a-Shot, ping pong, pool tables and air hockey.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Our Teen programs are strong and we’re proud that we continue to attract returning older campers year after year. In spite of all of the other choices that high school-aged children have in today’s world, the large majority of our campers choose to return to Timber Lake West all the way through the end of their Teen summers.

The Timber Lake West Teen Program begins with diverse programming, more day trips out of camp, more choice and flexibility daily, a later wake-up (they ARE teenagers, after all), many community service opportunities and strong staff and supervision. Our Teens alternate between a two-day Whitewater Rafting trip or a two-day trip to Hershey/Dorney Parks.

Our Teens are also part of our apprenticeship program in camp, through which they choose a specialty area and an age group with which they think they might like to work. For several hours each week, they will be assigned to work with these groups so that they can get a feel for coming back as Junior Counselors.

We provide structure, supervision, feedback and training so that they are successful AND prepared to be part of our staff!

CAMP FACILITIES: We have more than 60 cabins, a lakefront boating and swimming area, an a-frame dining hall with a massive stone fireplace, a 3200 square-foot indoor rockclimbing center, 3 barns and horse pastures, indoor & outdoor classrooms, sports fields, tennis courts, basketball court, street hockey rink, pottery studio, archery range, low ropes course, team building course, and a 19th century working farm (with barns, vegetable gardens, animal pastures, maple sugarhouse, candlemaking cabin, blacksmith forge, woodshop, TreeHouse Nature center, and a one-room schoolhouse)

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Pok-O-MacCready Camps is one of the oldest summer camps in the world. In fact, our boys’ camp is the oldest in the United States having been privately owned and operated by the same family since its establishment in 1905. In 1967 our current director, Jack Swan, saw the need for a summer camp for girls and opened Camp MacCready. We are now one big family, combining our names to “Pok-O-MacCready” and operating as a traditional residential Adirondack summer camp for boys and girls ages six to sixteen.

The proximity of our summer camp to the Adirondack Wilderness Park grants us access to more than 6 million acres of woodland, rocks, rivers, lakes, and mountains to explore. We consider it a privilege to be able to share this gorgeous part of the country with our campers each summer, and enjoy fostering their love of the outdoors while teaching them stewardship for the environment.

Pok-O-MacCready Camps is fully accredited by the American Camping Association (ACA) and adheres to all standards of compliance with the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH)

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Our CIT program for girls and ADV (Advanced) program for boys is an important finale to the summer camp career for our 15 and 16 year old campers! This rite of passage teaches them responsibility and independence and allows them to give back to the summer camp that has been an important part of their lives. As a send-off, you will save 20% off your child’s second (and final) year in the program. (The discount is taken off the regular tuition rate, and cannot be combined with other offers. The camper must have attended the first year of the CIT/ADV program to qualify.)

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Pok-O-MacCready is very proud of its affiliation with the Adirondack Scholarship Foundation, which awards approximately 20 need-based financial aid packages to campers each summer.

FAMILY CAMP SESSION(S): FAMILY CAMP: AUGUST 22th-26th 2018

Summer camp isn’t just for kids anymore! Want to experience camp for yourself and wrap it up into an inexpensive family vacation? Maybe you and your children are just curious to see what Pok-O-MacCready is all about, but you’re not quite ready to take the plunge with an entire summer. We have an answer for that: bring the whole family to camp! Our annual Family Camp week runs at the end of August and is all-inclusive of accommodation, meals, activities and programming, and transportation for trips outside of camp. YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: Pok-O-MacCready operates an Outdoor Education Center on its grounds from September through June of each year. Since 1974, the Pok-O-MacCready Outdoor Education Center has welcomed thousands of students and adults to participate in wilderness adventure excursions, team building dynamics, wildlife & ecology studies, living history programs, community events, and conservation initiatives. Apart from onsite day & multi-day overnight programs, PMOEC is available for school visits and in-classroom programming. The facilities are also available for venue rental for weddings, conferences, reunions, and community events.

CAMP SESSION DATES & FEES:

FULL SEASON (7 Weeks) JULY 1, 2018 – AUGUST 18, 2018 Standard Rate: $8,200.

It’s true! Many of our campers choose to stay for all seven weeks of the summer. Staying for the whole season really allows campers to hone their skills in their class areas, go on more wilderness trips, and means they won’t miss out on any of the big summer camp events! In addition, 7-weekers get to enjoy special events in between the 4-week and 3-week session break such as Beach Day and a day trip to the Great Escape amusement park. Some campers choose to register for the first 4 weeks, and then decide later to upgrade to the full 7-week session, and that’s just fine by us. If you’re unsure whether your camper would like to be a 4-weeker or a 7-weeker, don’t worry…it only takes a mouse-click for us to change a 4-weeker to a 7-weeker. Feel free to discuss that option with your child if you think they could benefit from a longer session!

4-WEEK SESSION JULY 1, 2018 – JULY 29, 2019 Standard Rate: $6,400
The first half of the summer consists of our 4-week overnight program. The 4-week session allows campers to learn new skills and take part in a variety of classes. The session includes many themed events which lead up to our “Color Wars”, in which campers don their colors of Red, Yellow, Blue, Black, or Green and see which team will come out on top: these games have been a camper favorite for decades!

“ROOKIE CAMP” (2 Weeks, for ages 6-10 only)
JULY 1, 2018 – JULY 14, 2018 Standard Rate: $3,200

For the first two weeks of the 4-Week session, we run a two week “Rookie Camp” for first-time campers between the ages of 6 to 9 years old. We feel this short session is a good bite-sized introduction to summer camp, and also allows campers the flexibility to stay on for the remainder of the 4-week session if they get bitten by the “summer camp bug” and want to stay longer!

3-WEEK SESSION (Overnight) JULY 31, 2018 – AUGUST 18, 2018 Standard Rate: $4,600

The 3-Week session offers two options to campers: a traditional overnight summer camp program, or a day-camp option. The 3-Week session is full of fun classes Mondays – Fridays, with special events planned on the weekends. It’s also the session in which our famous GREEK GAMES take place, as well as some of our campers’ all-time favorite camp events like the “Pok-O-Palooza” music festival, the Jack’s Cup sailing race, Casino Night, and the Pok-O County Fair.

3-WEEK SESSION (Day Camp)* JULY 21, 2018 – AUGUST 18, 2018 Standard Rate: $2,100 for a first-time camper.

Our day campers attend camp from approximately 9am to about 5pm Mondays through Fridays. Just like overnight campers, they get to create their own class schedule from a list of over 30 program offerings. They are, of course, assigned to a cabin and counselor and have their own bunks so they have a comfortable spot to relax during Rest Hour. Day campers also have the option of staying the night for an evening activity or program if they wish, and we can easily make those arrangements, although a small fee may apply. They also have the added bonus of being able to stay overnight the last week of camp for no additional fee!

Ideally located on the Boardwalk in Brighton Beach, the experienced staff provides a safe & nurturing environment for your children. Kosher lunches and snacks are provided daily. Exciting activities include beach outings, sports, swimming lessons in the Olympic sized indoor pool, arts & crafts, dance, singing, drama, thrilling trips, special events and much more!
